DADE COUNTY, Ga. — A former Dade County Jail administrator has been arrested following an investigation into financial records associated with the county jail, according to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Tommy Bradford requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on May 28 after concerns were raised regarding purchases allegedly made by former Jail Administrator Joseph Chambers.

Following preliminary findings from the investigation, Chambers’ employment was terminated on June 1, authorities said.

The investigation continued, and on June 4, the GBI agent assigned to the case obtained two arrest warrants for Chambers. He later surrendered to authorities at the Dade County Jail the same day.

Chambers was booked on one count of theft by conversion and one count of violation of oath by a public officer.

Officials said the investigation remains active, and no additional details are being released at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that the GBI is preparing its own press release regarding the case and plans to share that information once it becomes available.
